In the registered member's area, we spotlight outstanding law enforcement reserve programs (LERPs). The agency currently spotlighted is the Phoenix Police Department's Reserve Division. In an outstanding article written by Officer Steve Williams of the PPD's Reserve Division, he explains the duties, history, command philosophy, value, training, operational activities, unique utilization and honors won by the Reserve Division's RLEOs. In the previous month, we spotlighted the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office Reserve Division, which is also one of the largest and most operationally active programs in the nation.
CLER's spotlight program provides an overview and insights into great LERPs with a goal of encouraging jurisdictions to lean forward and expand—or implement—reserve programs. In a time of tight budgets and scarce resources, RLEOs provide a manpower gap filling and operational surge capacity that communities can't otherwise afford.
