LSCO (IL) Reserve Deputies assist Gurnee PD Traffic Safety Checkpoint

A special weekend roadside safety checkpoint led to more than a dozen arrests, according to the Gurnee Police Department.

Gurnee police, working with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department personnel that included Reserve Deputies, conducted the roadside safety checkpoint in the 5200 block of Route 132 from about 10 p.m. on May 27 to 3 a.m. on May 28, said Gurnee Police Cmdr. Jay Patrick.

A total of 291 vehicles were directed through the checkpoint, which was set up to make the roads safer during Memorial Day weekend, Patrick said.

Two people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, four were cited for driving without a valid license, three for suspended and revoked licenses, one for driving without a license on his person, six for failure to wear a seatbelt, three for failure to secure a child under 8 years old, 25 for driving without insurance, five for equipment violations, two for registration violations and two for additional moving violations.

Two people were also arrested on fugitive warrant arrests, and one was cited for unlawful possession of cannabis during the traffic stops.
