On March 31st, 2010, Erika Pesantes, a reporter for the Sun-Sentinel Staff, writes that Florida Governor Charlie Crist gave the prestigious Point of Light award to Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary Trooper Anthony Potts. As a volunteer Trooper, Potts patrols roadways, conduct vehicle equipment checkpoints, and detect and assess impaired drivers.
Potts, who has been an auxliliary trooper for six years, had the highest logged patrol time out of 280 auxiliary troopers performing in the Auxiliary's the Limited Scope Patrol (LSP) program, In the past two years alone, he volunteered over 3,000 hours.
The Point of Light Award, handed out weekly, is managed by The Volunteer Florida Foundation and recognizes Floridians who show exemplary service to the community weekly. A panel of judges comprised of leaders in the areas of volunteerism and service evaluate nominations and make recommendations to the governor.
