We've begun collecting information for our annual national census of serving RLEOs throughout the United States. Our last complete census, conducted in 2009, found 71,676 RLEOs actively serving in law enforcement reserve programs (LERPs) across the country. Numbers so far for this year indicate a general upward trend in most state's that have active reserve programs. One more state has zeroed out its reserves. Several states are now considering policies to promote or formalize reserve programs, training, and utilization. Policies that were formally restrictive to RLEOs are being rescinded. The 2011 national census will prove to be an interesting report.
The Council is committed to providing current, comprehensive information about Reserve Country. Accurate national statistics regarding serving RLEOs and LERPs have been unavailable prior to the Council's efforts.
We hope to have the report published by the end of May. Please keep checking the website.
