Wildfires devastated Eastern Oklahoma County several months ago. Many homes were lost and many people were left wondering how they could rebuild and how to start over. Many departments responded to assist citizens that day. One Jones PD Police officer, Lonnie Brewer responded to assist and ensure the safety of neighboring citizens. While assisting, Officer Brewer received a phone call saying his home was on fire. When Lonnie finally made it home, nothing was left but a smoldering pile; he was left with nothing but two uniforms and his daughter’s homework.
A pancake breakfast was organized to help Lonnie get back on his feet. From the start of the planning two OCSO employees pledged to help in whatever manner they could. These employees, Stephanie Carpenter and Rebekah Ward had never met Lonnie; on the morning of the breakfast they showed up and stated just tell us what to do. Deputy Eric Haskins who was very instrumental in the organization of this breakfast states with Stephanie and Rebekah’s diligent efforts and numerous supporters the benefit was able to raise almost $3,000 for a fellow officer. Deputy Haskins also included special recognition to Reserve Deputy Tim Maxberry for his food donations and efforts which made the event a success.
Benevolence is described a giving to other’s basic needs without having as my motive personal reward.
Compassion is described as investing whatever is necessary to heal the hurts of others.
Deputy Eric Haskins, Deputy Tim Maxberry, Rebekah Ward and Stephanie Carpenter: great way to represent our agency!
