The Hillsboro Police Department on Friday honored its reserve officers during an annual awards ceremony.
The banquet, held at a Hillsborocountry club, recognizes the reserve officers for their time and dedication to the community, said Lt. Mike Rouches, Hillsboro police spokesman. Reserves work with full-time officers and provide support to patrol, investigations and youth services. They also participate in community events.

During the ceremony, Officer Brian Hallin, who joined the department in 2005, was named Reserve Officer of the Year, Rouches said. The award commemorates former Hillsboro Reserve Officer Gerald H. Erickson, who died of a heart attack while searching for an armed robbery suspect in 1980, Rouches said.
Hallin serves as the agency's reserve training coordinator, a position he's held for five years. Rouches said in the last year, Hallin gave 426 hours to the reserve program.
Hallin works closely with the department's training team, which has helped in his training of the reserves, Rouches said. He's a certified firearms, Taser, use of force and defensive tactics instructor .
